The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Department of Chemistry, invites motivated applicants for a PhD position within the area of organic synthetic chemistry. The position is foreseen filled by August 2012. The planned work will comprise investigations of gold catalysis in organic synthesis, aiming at the development of new gold(I) catalyzed reactions. The project will also include gold catalysis in the preparation of biological active target molecules.

The scholarship will be awarded on a competitive basis. Applicants for the PhD-position must hold an MSc or similar degree in organic chemistry, preferably with experience or knowledge from the announced research field. Relevant experience in experimental organic synthesis is required.

NTNU’s PhD-rules require a master degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of studies and an average grade of A or B within a scale of A-E for passing grades (A best) and C or higher of the BSc. This PhD research fellowship is awarded for a total of 4 years including 25% of teaching assistance at bachelor’s and master’s degree level. Such courses are given in Norwegian. These duties are commonly distributed over the 4 years, with a larger proportion during the two first years.

The start salary for the PhD research fellow is set at level 48, NOK 391 100 (before tax) in the Norwegian state salary scale. 2% of the salary will be deducted at source as a mandatory premium to the Norwegian State Pension Fund.

The appointment will be made according to the general regulations regarding university employees and to national guidelines for appointment as PhD fellow. Applicants for the PhD positions must agree to participate in organized doctoral study programs within the period of the appointment and have to be qualified for the PhD-study. A contract will be drawn up regarding the period of appointment and work-related duties.
