DAAD Doctoral scholarship, German Federal Foundation for the Environment (DBU)
With an endowment of approximately 1.7 billion EUR, the German Federal Foundation for the Environment (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, DBU) is one of the largest foundations in Europe. Besides sponsoring projects, the DBU also awards scholarships to support young scientists. Entitled to apply are highly qualified young scientists who work on research subjects with a clear relation to current environmental issues and who contribute to solving these issues through their work.

60 doctoral scholarships are awarded every year. Foreign applicants are required to demonstrate, among other things, a good command of German. The scholarship amounts to 940.00 EUR per month, and is paid for a maximum of 3 years. In addition to the grant, a monthly standard allowance of 210.00 EUR is available for material and travel expenses. Further funds may be granted on application.
Eligible to apply are graduates of higher education institutions with above average examination results who are no older than 28. Sponsorship is offered for research projects in the field of environmental protection. This applies to projects in all scientific disciplines, insofar as they are of highly topical and contribute to solving environmental protection and nature conservation problems. Particularly welcome are interdisciplinary topics that support sustainable development.
Academics qualified for doctoral studies and with an above-average degree (overall grade good or very good; Law: at least fully satisfactory).
