UCL IMESS Scholarship Programme, UK
Applications are invited for the IMESS scholarship programme for the year 2016. Applicants from a country other than EU member-states and EEA-EFTA states are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme. IMESS is the leading two-year programme in comparative area studies that helps to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, the Baltics, Russia, the Caucasus and Central Asia. IMESS is a uniquely rich double degree Masters programme offering applciants the chance to study the economies, states and societies of Central and Eastern Europe over a two-year period across a consortium of powerful European universities coordinated by UCL – one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary universities. All students whose first language is not English must be able to provide recent evidence that their spoken and written command of the English language is adequate for the programme. The UCL regulations on this are strict and clearly explained. UCl require a ‘good’ English level.
Degree Level: Scholarship is available to pursue master degree programme.
Study Subject: Scholarship is awarded for International Masters in Economy, State and Society.
Scholarship can be taken at: UK (Scholarships are available for the best performing students after the completion of year 1 at UCL. After successfully completing both years of study, the students will be awarded a double degree: one from UCL and one from the year 2 partner university.
Eligibility: Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for this Scholarship:-
- Category A IMESS Scholarships can be awarded to students satisfying the Category A criteria:
- must come from a country other than EU member-states and EEA-EFTA states
- are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of these countries.
- Category B IMESS scholarships can be awarded to any students who do not fulfill the Category A criteria defined above.
Eligible Nationality: Non-EU (including EEA/EFTA) applicants is eligible for IMESS Scholarship: Category A as well as Applicants not eligible for Category A are eligible for IMESS Scholarship: Category B. Applicants must come from a country other than EU member-states and EEA-EFTA states are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirements: Applicants need to hold (or expect to obtain) an upper second class honours degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant subject area. If their Bachelors degree is in an unrelated subject, they must demonstrate their interest in IMESS through the supplementary questionnaire.
English language/ Test Requirements: All students whose first language is not English must be able to provide recent evidence that their spoken and written command of the English language is adequate for the programme. 7: Non-native speaker – “Good” level of English (based on evidence from language proficiency certificate, e.g. test score of 7.0 in IELTS).
10: Native speaker or other evidence of exceptionally good English proficiency (e.g. test score above 7.5 in IELTS and/or long-term residence in majority English-speaking countries).
Note: UCL SSEES minimum English proficiency requirement is “Good”. English Language qualifications accepted by UCL for graduate study: IELTS, Cambridge Certificate, City & Guilds ESOL, UCL Language Centre or Pearson Test of English.
Scholarship Benefit: These scholarships cover the tuition fees in each year of the programme but do not cover all of the costs associated with attending the programme (e.g. accommodation, food, travel). You will need some additional source of funding to cover the full costs associated with accommodation, food, travel and books. For example, in year one (all students are in London) it is estimated that the average living costs for a single graduate student for an academic year are approximately €12,000. Living costs in year 2 vary. In addition to IMESS Scholarships, Academic Excellence Bursaries (€5,000) will be made available for the best performing students after the completion of year 1 at UCL (for students starting in 2015) . -IMESS Scholarship: Category A- €49,000 over two years (for 2016 entry)
