What Scotland Pakistan scholarships actually means
Most people searching for Scotland Pakistan scholarships are looking for funding to study in Scotland, or anywhere in the UK, as a Pakistani citizen. There is no single government scheme with that name in our listings. What exists is a group of awards: national schemes such as Chevening Scholarships in the UK for International Master's Students and Commonwealth Master's and PhD Scholarships for Developing Commonwealth Countries (DFID), plus university awards in Scotland and England.
Scotland-based options in our list include the Edinburgh Global Research Scholarships for PhD Study at the University of Edinburgh and the Edinburgh Global Masters Scholarships at University of Edinburgh (UK). Both are real, both are on the University of Edinburgh's own pages, and both have their own rules. Always confirm the current round on the official page.
How to read this list of UK scholarships for Pakistani students
Treat the list as a shortlist, not a ranking. Each entry tells you the host, the level, what the money covers and the deadline of the round our listing records. Read the funding line first, because a full tuition waiver and a small fee discount need very different plans.
- Check eligibility before anything else. Some awards are for developing countries, some for Commonwealth countries, some for any international student. Pakistan's status differs by scheme.
- Match the level. A PhD-only award is wasted effort if you are applying for a Masters.
- Note the deadline type. Some dates are fixed each year, others move. The official page has the current figure.
- Open the full listing for the documents and selection details before you start writing.

Scotland scholarships for Pakistani students: the Edinburgh routes
If Scotland is your target, the University of Edinburgh appears twice in our list and the two awards work differently.
Edinburgh Global Research Scholarships
This is a PhD award. It pays the gap between the fee charged to a UK/EU graduate student and the fee charged to an overseas graduate student. Maintenance is not covered, and the award runs for up to three years if your progress is satisfactory. Our listing records 17 Feb 2020 as the deadline, so confirm the current date on the university page.
Edinburgh Global Masters Scholarships
Each scholarship is worth £3,000 for one academic year and is taken off your tuition fees rather than paid to you. Our listing records 1 Apr 2016, so this is a partial award you would combine with other funding.
Neither is a full ride. Plan for the rest of the fee and all living costs from another source.
Masters scholarships in the UK for Pakistani students
Most Pakistani applicants target a one-year Masters, and most of the awards in our list sit at that level. They range from full funding to a few thousand pounds off the fee.
- Full funding: Chevening, Commonwealth, Westminster International Postgraduate Full Scholarship, IOE Centenary at UCL.
- Large partial awards: Developing Solutions Scholarships at University of Nottingham (50 to 100% of tuition), Allan & Nesta Ferguson Global Development Scholarships at UEA (full tuition plus a grant), UWE Millennium Scholarship (50% tuition).
- Fee discounts: University of Birmingham Global Masters Scholarships (£2,000 towards tuition), International Ambassador Scholarships at University of West London (up to £5,000 for undergraduates, up to £2,000 for postgraduates).
- Subject-specific: Oxford Pershing Square Graduate Scholarships for the MBA and Masters route, and Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarships at University of the Arts London for arts students.
Undergraduate and PhD options
Bachelors funding is thinner but real. Reach Oxford Scholarships for Students from Developing Countries covers tuition, college fees, a living grant and one return air fare per year for three or four years. Westminster Undergraduate Full Scholarships and Westminster Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships cover tuition, accommodation, living expenses and flights. Denys Holland Scholarship at UCL is worth £9,000 per year for three years, and Transform Together Scholarships at Sheffield Hallam University gives a half fee waiver for the first year.
At PhD level, look at Cambridge International Scholarships for PhD Study (University Composition Fee plus a maintenance allowance), Chancellor's International Scholarships at University of Warwick (fees plus a stipend), Vice Chancellor's International Scholarship for Research Excellence at Nottingham (fees plus a monthly living allowance) and the Edinburgh research award above.
Who these UK scholarships suit, and who should look elsewhere
They suit you if you have strong academic results, a clear course choice, and time to prepare documents months in advance. They also suit applicants who can name a specific development or leadership reason for studying in the UK, because several schemes ask for exactly that.
Look elsewhere if you need funding confirmed within weeks, or you cannot cover any shortfall. Several awards here are partial: £3,000 off a Masters fee, a £2,000 tuition contribution, or a fee gap payment with no maintenance. If your budget depends on full funding, apply only to the fully funded schemes and treat the rest as a bonus. Students open to other countries can compare Scholarships in Canada, Scholarships in Germany or Scholarships in Australia.
Documents you will need
Requirements differ by scheme, but the core pack is similar across UK awards.
- Valid passport and, where asked, proof of Pakistani nationality
- Academic transcripts and degree certificates
- English language test result, where the course requires one
- Two academic or professional references
- A personal statement or motivation letter
- CV or resume, for leadership and development schemes
- An offer or application to a UK course, where the scheme requires it
- Financial documents, where the award is partial
Reference letters take the longest. Ask your referees early, and give them your course choice and the scheme name so their letter matches what the panel reads.
How to apply, step by step
- Shortlist three to five schemes from the list above that match your level and subject.
- Read each official page and note the current deadline, eligibility wording and required documents.
- Check your eligibility against nationality, country category, age and course rules before writing anything.
- Choose your UK courses and note their application deadlines, since some scholarships depend on a course application.
- Draft your statement around your academic record, the course, and what you will do afterwards.
- Request references and give referees at least a few weeks.
- Submit early and keep the confirmation email for each application.
- Track outcomes and keep a backup scheme and a backup course in play.
Our scholarship tips cover statement writing and reference requests in more detail.
Common mistakes Pakistani applicants make
- Assuming one scheme covers everyone. Pakistan's eligibility differs between Commonwealth, developing-country and open international awards. Read the wording.
- Missing the early national deadlines. Chevening and Commonwealth close in October in our listings, long before most university awards.
- Applying to a partial award as if it were full funding. A £3,000 fee reduction does not cover living costs.
- Reusing one statement everywhere. Panels can tell. Match the statement to the scheme's stated purpose.
- Ignoring the course application. Some awards require you to be admitted or to have applied first.
- Trusting an old deadline. Where our listing date looks out of date, the official page has the current figure.
Other UK awards worth checking
A few more entries in our list round out the picture. OCIS Scholarships at Oxford for Muslims from Developing Countries covers 100% of university and college fees plus a living costs grant. University of Bradford Global Development Scholarships support students affected by conflict and instability. UWE Global Student Scholarships cover full tuition for Masters study. Westminster Full-Fee Masters Scholarships cover tuition only. Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme at UK Universities is fully funded but our listing marks its 9 December 2025 deadline as passed, so check the next round. The Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowships are a postdoctoral route based in Europe rather than the UK.
